The first Best Bar None Awards to be held in Barnsley took place at the Bluebell Inn on the evening of the 3rd April 2007.  The evening was a huge success with over 130 people in attendance.  This was made possible due to the kind generosity of our sponsors .

Seventeen premises were accredited with meeting the benchmark standard.  This means that the premises have been assessed as having good management practices in place against set criteria under the four licensing objectives:
" Prevention of Crime and Disorder
" Public Safety
" Prevention of Public Nuisance
" Protection of Children from Harm

Winners were also announced in three categories.  The Walkabout scooped the Dearne FM Listeners Award, Durty ODwyers claimed the Barnsley Chronicle Readers Award, and the Lucorum were announced as the overall Best Bar None.

The Awards were announced by Dearne FM presenter Matt Jones and presentations made by Barnsley poet Ian McMillan, who also provided a Winners Poem .  Live entertainment was provided by soul band Tamala Motion.

Sarah Mainwaring Director of the Barnsley Safer Communities Partnership, who was one of the judging panel that determined the overall winner, said of the event The turnout tonight is fantastic for our first year of Barnsleys Best Bar None scheme.  We hope that this initiative will help to give recognition and reward to the premises in the Town Centre that are well-managed and contributing to a safe and healthy night-time economy.
